When an AI platform cites its sources, those citations are the supply chain of your visibility. The Sources page (Analysis → Sources) shows which domains get cited for your queries, and — more usefully — how much of the cited content actually mentions you.

Citation rate

A time series of the top five cited domains, plotted as the percentage of AI responses citing each one. Switch buckets with the Daily / Weekly / Monthly selector.

Top cited domains

A compact top-20 list of domains with their citation rate — the fastest read of “who does the AI trust in my category”.

Source type distribution

A single stacked bar splitting citations by category. Four axes to choose from:
Controllability is the actionable one. Owned is your own estate, Earnable is where PR and content can plausibly move the needle (news, blogs, reviews, communities, video, marketplaces), and Hard / Low-control is where they can’t (encyclopedias, academic work, government).

Sources overview

The full grid — “detailed metrics for all sources citing your entity and competitors”. Search matches the domain name only — not page titles, URLs or category labels. The Category facet filters the grid, and ⋮ → Export current as CSV downloads the visible page plus every URL belonging to those domains, as two files.
Three of these columns count three different things. Citation rate counts distinct AI responses, Presence and Entity cit. share count distinct page URLs, and True reach counts raw citation rows. A domain can legitimately show high Presence and low True reach at the same time.
Share columns are shares of the whole project, not of the filtered rows. Narrowing by category or search does not rescale them to 100%.
The Presence cell shows a ratio like 12/40, not a percentage — the colour band comes from the percentage, and sorting sorts by the percentage.

Domain detail

Click any row to open the detail sheet:
  • Source stats — Responses citing this domain, Total page citations, Entity page citations, and Presence.
  • Competitors — one badge per competitor found on that domain, showing its true reach. This is how you find the sites that cite your competitors and ignore you.
  • URL table — every cited page on the domain, with its citation share, entity citation share, the entities detected on it, and a scrape success/error badge. A green dot means your brand was found on that page.
Expand any URL row to see which of your queries produced that citation.

Source categories

Each domain resolves to exactly one type category, in this order:
  1. A project-specific override you set
  2. The global category assigned by MentionLab’s automatic categoriser
  3. Other
To override one, go to Project settings → Domain Categories. Uncategorised domains always show as Other, never blank.
Relationship (Owned / Competitor / Partner / Independent) is stored per project; a domain with no relationship set counts as Independent. Controllability is derived from type and relationship — it is never stored and cannot be edited directly.

Interaction with “View as”

A View as pin re-scopes the Sources overview grid and the URL drill-down to that brand — so “Entity cit. share”, “Presence” and “True reach” become that brand’s numbers. The citation-rate timeseries and the type-distribution bar deliberately ignore the pin, since they describe the citation landscape rather than any one brand.
