# Sentiment Analysis

> Understand how AI models talk about your brand — positively, neutrally, or negatively

Mention rate tells you *whether* you appear. Sentiment tells you *how you're described*. MentionLab
scores every mention of your brand and rolls those scores up on the **Sentiments** page
(**Intelligence → Sentiments**).

## Stat cards

| Card                        | What it shows                                                    |
| --------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Overall Sentiment** | Positive, Neutral or Negative — the label for your brand's score |
| **Sentiment Score** | The mean score across all your brand's mentions |
| **Total Mentions Analyzed** | How many mentions the score is built from |

<Note>
  Sentiment Score is an index from 0 to 100, where 0 is most negative and 100 most positive. The
  page renders it with a `%` sign, but it is not a share — a score of 62 does not mean 62% of
  mentions were positive.
</Note>

## Score bands

| Sentiment    | Score  | Meaning                                                    |
| ------------ | ------ | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Positive** | 60–100 | The AI recommends or praises your brand |
| **Neutral** | 40–59 | Your brand is mentioned factually, without strong language |
| **Negative** | 0–39   | Criticism, drawbacks, or unfavourable comparisons          |

## Period Sentiment Breakdown

A donut splitting the period's mentions across Positive, Neutral and Negative.

## Sentiment Trend

100%-stacked bars over time, with a **Daily** / **Weekly** / **Monthly** selector. Each bar's tooltip
gives both the percentage and the raw mention count.

## Sentiment by Entity

Your brand against every competitor: mention count, score, and a three-segment breakdown bar. Sorted
by mentions.

<Info>
  This table deliberately ignores the **View as** pin — it always lists every entity, so the
  comparison stays a comparison.
</Info>

## Sentiment Analysis by Topic

Sentiment broken down per **tag**, for your brand only. Despite the word "Topic" in the title, the
rows are your query tags — tags with no brand mentions are dropped.

Columns: Score, Positive, Neutral, Negative, Mentions.

## Reading the results

* **Content strategy** — a recurring negative theme in AI answers is a content gap you can close.
* **Competitive positioning** — find the topics where competitors get criticised and you don't.
* **Trend monitoring** — watch the trend chart around launches, PR events and pricing changes.
* **Query refinement** — a query with unexpectedly negative sentiment is often badly worded rather
  than bad news.

<Warning>
  If the page shows "No entity mentions yet", sentiment has nothing to score. That usually means
  your brand isn't being matched — check its aliases in **Project settings → Entities**.
